The Ubiquiti U6+ is a compact, ceiling-mounted WiFi 6 access point built for small and medium-sized businesses that need reliable, fast wireless coverage without complexity or high cost. Improving on the U6 Lite, the U6+ delivers dual-band WiFi 6 with higher throughput, better client handling, and a slimmer profile — all powered by a single standard PoE cable. For businesses deploying their first UniFi network or expanding an existing one, the U6+ delivers enterprise-grade performance at an accessible price point.
Key Features
The U6+ operates on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi 6 (802.11ax) bands with 2×2 MU-MIMO on each band. Maximum data rates reach 2.4 Gbps on 5 GHz using 160 MHz channel bandwidth, and 573.5 Mbps on 2.4 GHz using 40 MHz. Combined aggregate throughput is 2.97 Gbps — a meaningful step up from the U6 Lite’s performance ceiling, making the U6+ the better choice for offices with demanding per-device bandwidth requirements.
OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) allows the U6+ to divide channel bandwidth into smaller sub-channels and serve multiple clients within a single transmission window. In practice, this reduces the latency experienced by each connected device when many clients are active simultaneously — a critical improvement over WiFi 5 in dense environments like open-plan offices and meeting rooms.
The U6+ covers up to 1,500 ft² (140 m²) and handles 300+ concurrent clients, making it well-suited for single-floor office spaces, retail showrooms, clinics, and classrooms. Antenna gain sits at 5.4 dBi on 5 GHz and 3 dBi on 2.4 GHz, with TX power reaching 23 dBm on both bands for consistent coverage at range.
Power is delivered via a single 802.3af PoE input on the GbE RJ45 uplink port — maximum power draw is 9W. Standard 802.3af is sufficient, meaning the U6+ works with any entry-level PoE switch or injector without requiring PoE+ hardware. Both ceiling and wall mounts are included in the box. The circular form factor at Ø160 x 33 mm is thin, light at 338 g, and unobtrusive in any commercial space.
Security support includes WPA-PSK, WPA2, WPA3, and WPA-Enterprise with 802.1X for environments requiring RADIUS-based authentication. Up to 8 BSSIDs per radio allows network administrators to run multiple SSIDs — separating staff, guest, and IoT traffic — from a single physical AP. The U6+ integrates fully into the UniFi Network application for centralized management alongside switches, gateways, and other UniFi access points.

Use Cases
Small Business Offices: The U6+ covers a typical single-floor office space end to end with one unit. With band steering active, client devices are pushed to the faster 5 GHz band automatically, keeping video calls, cloud applications, and file syncing running at full speed. The guest network SSID isolates visitor traffic from the internal LAN without requiring a separate AP.
Retail Stores and Showrooms: A retail floor needs reliable coverage for staff tablets, POS terminals, inventory scanners, and customer-facing guest WiFi — all on the same AP. The U6+ handles 300+ concurrent clients across multiple SSIDs, and its compact ceiling-mount form factor keeps the hardware out of the customer’s line of sight.
Classrooms and Training Rooms: A single U6+ serves a full classroom of 30–40 students with laptops or tablets. OFDMA ensures each device gets a fair share of channel bandwidth, preventing the congestion and latency spikes common with older WiFi 5 access points in high-density learning environments. Centralized management via the UniFi Network app lets IT teams push firmware updates and monitor all access points from a single dashboard.
Healthcare and Clinics: Clinics running wireless workstations, patient check-in tablets, and VoIP handsets need fast, secure WiFi with minimum downtime. The U6+ delivers WPA3 and WPA-Enterprise security to protect sensitive patient data, and its 802.3af PoE power requirement means it works with any existing PoE-capable network infrastructure without hardware upgrades.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the difference between the U6+ and the U6 Lite?
A: The U6+ improves on the U6 Lite with higher 5 GHz throughput — reaching 2.4 Gbps using 160 MHz channel bandwidth compared to the U6 Lite’s 1.2 Gbps maximum. Both are dual-band WiFi 6 APs with 2×2 MIMO and 802.3af PoE input, but the U6+ delivers meaningfully better real-world speeds for bandwidth-heavy devices and applications.
Q: Does the U6+ require a UniFi controller to operate?
A: The U6+ is managed through the UniFi Network application, which can run on a UniFi Cloud Gateway such as the UDR or UDM Pro, a self-hosted server, or Ubiquiti’s cloud management portal. No dedicated on-site controller hardware is required for small deployments using cloud management.
Q: What PoE standard does the U6+ require?
A: The U6+ requires only 802.3af PoE — the most common and widely available PoE standard. It draws a maximum of 9W and works with any standard 802.3af PoE switch or PoE injector. PoE+ (802.3at) switches are also compatible and fully supported.
Q: Can the U6+ be used outdoors?
A: No. The U6+ is rated for indoor use only, with an operating temperature range of -30 to 60°C. For outdoor deployments, Jazz Cyber Shield stocks dedicated Ubiquiti outdoor access points with weatherproof enclosures designed for exterior installation.

I needed a reliable, powerful access point to extend Wi-Fi coverage across my living area, and the U6+ has exceeded my expectations. My network setup includes a Unifi Express and an 8-port UniFi switch with PoE, making it easy to integrate the U6+.
Setup was incredibly straightforward—essentially plug-and-play. After connecting the U6+ to my UniFi switch, the device was detected instantly in the UniFi controller. A few quick configuration steps later, my network was up and running with strong, consistent coverage throughout my home.
Overall, I couldn’t be happier with how seamlessly the U6+ integrated into my UniFi setup. It’s a solid investment for anyone serious about their network performance and reliability.

I am an existing Ubiquiti customer and have an established network. I was in need of an additional AP to boost the signal in one side of my home. I purchased the U6+ AP to replace my aging UAP-AC-Pro and had no issues adopting the new AP.
Setup is a breeze, just connect the new AP to a PoE enabled switch port either on your Switch/Router or PoE Injector (sold separately) and hit Adopt on the controller, the software takes care of the rest. Total setup is less than 5 minutes.
Performance is outstanding and supports up to WiFi 6 (note this is not WiFi 6E). I was able to saturate the 1Gb Ethernet uplink when running speed tests. I wish this came with 2.5Gb but for my needs, the 1Gb wired speed limitation works fine for most people, but WiFi 6 leaves some bandwidth on the table.
Overall great value for the money, I plan to buy one or two more and extend my wireless into my shop next.
